ALVS Green Abalone

I was hoping to use this for fretboard inlay work - much like abalam. I always prefer to use natural shell, but finding larger, thicker pieces of Paua shell is difficult. I saw this was available at .08" thick and decided to try it. The material seems to be made up of three pieces - a .04" of black backing material, .01" of shell veneer and .03" of clear acrylic. It looks really nice but not useable for my application. Shipping and customer service is top notch.

very forgiving product, it was much easier to work and bring to a high gloss finish than I expected, I have seen this type of product referred to a "Looking Glass" MOP, once the edges are rounded it has the appearance of a thick solid shell piece.

I use these pearl laminates for my custom knife handles and pistol grips. The material is tough ,resilient, and beautiful. It is easy to work and polishes like glass. My customers love it.
