Realistic Ivory Alternative
I searched the internet for a suitable ivory substitute to make a set of grips for a western styled revolver. I had great difficulty finding the correct thickness and/or a large enough cut piece larger than that needed for small knife scales. Then I found this Alternative Ivory. Not only is it my proper needs thickness at 1/2" but very thoughtful outer (slab) cut size options to fit any budget. I was also pleased to find out this material cuts and machines more like hard wood than many polymers that heat up and can get gummy. This is med/hard material, but works like soft. It's dusty though, so wear a mask when sanding. It sands fast so take your time and enjoy shaping your project. I finished my grips (all by hand, no buffer) with 3000 grit wet paper, and polished to a nice sheen with Novus plastic polish. I couldn't be happier with the realist ivory looking appearance. I'm so glad I found this material.
