First time I've used this material - it finishes beautifully and doesn't smear like ivory micarta when subjected to heat. One needs to be careful about chipping when drilling out tang holes and thong holes in the handle. This is going to be my go to ivory type material from now on

Mr.
I use this alternative ivory for knife scales and found it easy to drill, cut and sand to form. It has a subtle modulated grain pattern when highly polished which looks quite natural, simulating real ivory. I'm very satisfied with the ivory look and feel of this product. It also doesn't have the offensive smell of real ivory when being cut and sanded to form. The smell is of a slight perfume nature and dissipates over time.

Realistic Ivory Alternative For Handgun Grips
I have used the 1/2" material before but this is the first time using the 3/8", so this review is pretty identical to my first one. I searched the internet for a suitable ivory substitute to make a set of grips for a western styled revolver. I had great difficulty finding the correct thickness and/or a large enough cut piece larger than that needed for small knife scales. Then I found this Alternative Ivory. Not only is it my proper needs thickness at 3/8" but very thoughtful outer (slab) cut size options to fit any budget. I was also pleased to find out this material cuts and machines more like hard wood than many polymers that heat up and can get gummy. This is med/hard material, but works like soft. It's dusty though, so wear a mask when sanding. It sands fast so take your time and enjoy shaping your project. I finished my grips (all by hand, no buffer) with 3000 grit wet paper, and polished to a nice sheen with Novus plastic polish. I couldn't be happier with the realist ivory looking appearance. I'm so glad I found this material.

Good solid material that is easy to work with. Nice coloring. Wishing I could get it a bit thinner, but the offered thicknesses aren't bad. Better than faux bone available on the market.

I really like the alternative ivory. Works very easy and is not as prone to chip out or crack like some others i have used. Finishes fine and looks like the real thing.
